Viator River Cruises

The content on this page contains some affiliate links, which means I may be compensated if you choose to book a cruise. The fare is the same whether you book directly with the travel company or through this website. Thank you if you make a purchase using one of the links on this page!

Viator.com is one of the main companies featured on this website as supplier for day river cruises. While the company does offer some itineraries for overnight cruises on rivers like the Nile, Chobe, Murray and Yangtze, most of the trips are for lunch, dinner, sightseeing or scenic cruises that vary in length but do not last more than one day. Some are as short as one hour and others are as long as a full day.

Viator has a wide variety of options with more than 4,800 itineraries currently. So if you're not necessarily looking for an overnight river cruise, this might be a great option for you to experience the river by boat in many different cities around the world.

You'll find several pages on this website that link to itineraries from Viator.com. Let's take a look at the company and the reasons why I make so many recommendations for trips they offer.

About Viator.com

Viator Vacations Online, Inc. opened its doors for business in San Franciso, CA in 1995, so it's been around for 23 years. The company - now known as Viator, Inc. - also has offices in Las Vegas, London and Sydney.

In August 2014, the travel company was acquired by TripAdvisor, which is one of the largest travel sites in the world, according to Wikipedia. Viator still continues to operate the way it has since its inception.

A few advantanges of booking travel with the company:

  • It offers nearly 64,000 itineraries for different types of travel, including land, water and air. The company prides itself in selecting only the best trips available globally. They offer some truly unique experiences.
  • The company claims that it's able to secure lower prices than consumers can by booking the trip directly.
  • Viator verifies all consumer reviews and photos that are shared on its website.

When I do make a recommendation on this website, it's based on the quality rating and the consumer reviews on Viator.com as well as the overall itinerary. In general, I will not recommend trips that do not have at least a 4-star rating and have at least ten reviews. I actually like to see several reviews. That way one or two good or bad reviews will not heavily influence the rating.

While most people probably do not take the time to leave a review, some do. And those who do, describe and rate the trip based on their own personal experience.

Why I Recommend Trips from Viator

Here are a few reasons why I recommend river cruises from Viator.

  1. They've been operating as a travel company for nearly 20 years and are a subsidiary of Trip Advisor, which is a well-known, global company.
  2. The company offers a lot of different options that you won't find anywhere else.
  3. After you book a trip, you will have access to global support 24/7. This is particularly helpful when travel is booked in a foreign country.
  4. Viator has been accredited by the Better Business Bureau since 2006 and has an A+ BBB rating. You can view the rating here.
